Why Can't We Get Along?
People walking down my roadside
Invisible masks and robes of white
A terrible sight
Causing fright within me
They're mean, and take for themselves others' fate
Hating to love and loving to hate
Making me sick with grief
Staring in wide-eyed disbelief
At their contempt for all colors but white
Oh, no, that one's alright
But black? Brown? Yellow? And red?
They wish them dead
Enough said
Oh, honey, don't play with them
They're not like us
Segregation
Separation
One nation under God
Yet still divided by race
Spitting in the very face
Of those wrote equality for you as much as for me
Love thy neighbor
Leaves no room for such behavior
And still on they march
Robes dragging on the parched earth
Chanting with their torches blazing
Eyes staring
Glaring
Gazing
At anyone painted with a different brush
They fear the unknown
Huddled at home
Planning their next crusade
Faith in Hate! they cry out
Looking to save the indifferent
But I will not go with them, too
No, I will stand strong with you
Even though you don't look like me
Cant you see?
We're brother and sister in Liberty
